WHAT IS THE REACTIVE POWER?

In the electrical installations we can find so many receptors, such as motors, power suppliers, reactors, ect.., and magnetic fields are needed for their functioning. These generally inductive equipments absorb energy from the network to create magnetic fields and returns it while are disappearing. This exchange of energy causes additional consumption that is not usable for the recipient (active power is usable for the recipient). This energy is called reactive power and is measured in kVArh. The reactive power causes an overload in lines, power suppliers and generators, without producing useful energy (which is paid supplement). Revising your energy bill you can find significant increase. This extra energy can unbalance your electrical installation. Most industrial loads produce this energy, together with reactive energy.

NEGATIVE EFFECTS OF REACTIVE ENERGY

There are some negative effects arising from consumption of this type of energy:

- Economic costs reflected in electricity bills.
- Loss of power facilities.
- Voltage dips that may impair their processes.
- Strained power suppliers.

Moreover this energy causes overhead in lines and generators without producing useful work.

All electrical installations consume energy, however there two types of energy.

Active energy: It is consumed by resistors, for example by the following appliances:

- Electric stove.
- Iron.
- Light bulb....

Reactive energy: It is consumed by coils. For example:

- The motor of a washing machine.
- The motor of a mixer.
- The power of a PC.
- Discharge lamps (fluorescent).

HOW IT IS RELATED WITH LOW POWER BULBS?

Famous light bulbs are the type of discharge, and the amount of reactive power they consume is enormous. Therefore, the energy savings and economic course that its use implies does not exist, since in the electricity bill will have a charge of reactive power.

NEW TARIFFS OF REACTIVE ENERGY

On 28 December, in order ITC/3519/2009, council of ministers approved new electricity tariff. As a result there was the unprecedented increase in the surcharge penalty for reactive power in Spain. This charge can be assumed in the worst case in a respect to the previous situation and increase of 3.197% is an increase of 3200%. This means that if we before paid 0.01€, now with the same consumption of reactive would pay 32€ (384€/year).

ECONOMIC SAVINGS THROUGH THE USE OF HIGH POWER LED LIGHTING

The type of power used by any conventional light system is AC (alternating current). This current needs to be transformed through the windings of the lights, causing reactive power and increase in the electricity bill.

LED lighting powered by DC (direct current) which prevents any electrical current return and therefore does not generate reactive power. This is one of many advantages of LED lighting technology.

Real alternative of low lighting undoubtedly is with high-power LED that offers Goodwork International. Using this type of next-generation lighting systems we save up to 80% in electricity consumption and also it brings more economic and ecological benefits. It will consume very little power; therefore you will notice that in your energy bill. These energy savings will help reduce CO2 emissions substantially discharged into the atmosphere.
