LED is a device that contains semiconductor material which applying small electric current produces light. Certain color light emitted by this device does not produce heat as many other conventional light-emitting devices do.
LED is the abbreviation for Light Emitting Diode.
Emitted light color depends on the materials used in manufacturing process. Speaking strictly, light depends on a semiconductor material that will make it between ultraviolet and infrared color, including the whole range of colors visible to the human eye. Light, therefore is not generated by heating of some kind of filling (principle of incandescent lamp and halogen), it is generated by an effect called electroluminescence, when it is applied a current between the poles of the device.
There are so many advantages of LEDs, among which is its small size compared to a conventional halogen. By the way both lights give the same brightness. Moreover, its duration is considerably higher, since LED has ability to stay on for 50,000 hours, that is, 6 years continuously.
The future of lighting is LED. Goodwork International has been betting so long for these tiny semiconductor devices that have revolutionized the concept of light.
HOW FUNCTIONS LED?
As we said LED is a semiconductor device. When power is supplied to LED, electrons move through the semiconductor material and some move to a lower energy state. During this process is emitted so called ¨surplus¨ energy in a form of light. The wavelength (and therefore color) can be adjusted using different semiconductor materials and different manufacturing processes.
Long life: Life at full capacity of LED is over 50,000 operating hours. When compared to 2,000 hours for halogen or 10,000 hours of fluorescents we also realize that we have an important value in the low cost maintenance.
Low power consumption: Low intensity and minimum operating voltage, makes power consumption lower than other light sources and generates significant electrical savings.
High strength: fixtures are manufactured under a resin epoxy. Manufactured without filaments or moving parts are more resistant to shock, vibration ...
Luminous Efficiency: LEDs convert almost all used energy to light so they have a high light output and low heat emission.
Other advantages are its immediate turning on, minimal dimensions that suit any application, any mercury or other heavy components possession, no UV or infrared radiation.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION
Luminous Efficiency: The ratio between the amount of light generated by a light source and power consumed to produce it. It is expressed in lumen / watt (lm / w).
Color temperature: Color temperature of light source is defined by comparing its color of light spectrum with light emitted of black body heated with this light to a given temperature. That is why this color temperature is expressed in degrees Kelvin (º K).
Luminous flux: The amount of visible light emitted by a lamp in all directions. It is measured in lumens (lm). Luminous Intensity: The amount of visible light
(Luminous flux) emitted by a lamp in a particular direction. It is measured in candelas (Cd).
Luminance: The luminous flux received by a concrete surface. It is measured in Lux.
